Our Charitable Foundation Mission

The residents of Seabrook, Kiawah, Johns Island and Wadmalaw have always been very generous with their time and resources, hoping to make life a little better for our neighbors who may need assistance meeting even the basic challenges of daily life. And we know that there are many worthy groups and charitable organizations working to meet those needs and requesting your support. Those groups and their clients are sincerely grateful to everyone who has so generously volunteered to help and donated to them over the years.

One critical objective of the Fleming Open is to use our platform to provide financial aid to an outstanding local organization doing the work described above. This year the Fleming Open Committee has selected the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit 501 (c) (3), as our charitable partner. The Sea Island Habitat for Humanity is committed to seeing Charleston thrive by partnering with the community, together they can help families and communities achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable housing.

Their mission summary is as follows:  Founded in 1978, Sea Island Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization Habitat for Humanity International. Located in Johns Island, ours is the third oldest Habitat affiliate in the world. We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
